so... i sorted trash from non-trash and moved the stuff in the yard onto the porch. then i went to buy gin and enchilada fixins (i just needed cheese and sauce-stuffs) and more tonic water.

came home and boy wanted to stake out the tomatoes. it was sprinkling, though it stopped by the time we got out in the yard... so the mosquitoes feasted on us. boy pounded rebar in while i cut away the too-small chickenwire cages. then we fitted the PVC pipes and joints together and slipped them over the rebar. he got two wooden stakes from the shed and pounded those in beside the two plants the PVC didn't reach. i only uncaged four plants--left the four in the middle caged until I can tie off string and hose supports. i tied up the four on the end, though, so they're all happy and none of them are on the ground (the wind/rain had knocked a couple over). i also took the opportunity to pull off any unhappy leaves.

i came in, stripped on the sunporch (boy hates it when i do that), and headed straight to the shower. i don't think my hands will ever look clean. i didn't wear gloves and when you have dry skin... the dirt gets in EVERY crack and crevice.

boy's out of the shower, so i put another load of laundry in. mostly clothing i've worn outside this week + some undies.

now i'm taking a rest break. i did too much outside. so i'm reading a little, drinking ¡Manzana!, and thinking about what i'll do next. maybe sort some laundry, maybe brush the living room floor.

or maybe i'll make a gin & tonic.

yes, apple. i found some mexican kool-aid (agua fresca, Fresca Bon!) at La Chata. i like the apple flavor, which reads MANZANA on the front.

it reminds me of Fanta. they also have apple soda in bottles--aga manzina and Manzanita.

i feel like i'm spoiling the surreality of my battle cry, but i know i had some folks genuinely curious. i don't always explain myself, but today i'm feeling generous.

You know why manzanita plants (California has gazillions, several species) are called manzanita, right?

The seeds have a certain look to them.

We don't have freaky California alien plants like those out here. ;) So, no. I'd never heard of them until you posted.
