Yay! I found walking shoes. They were the first ones I tried on. And they're not one of those icky pair of white. Granted, they look like black walking shoes, but that's because they are. My feet seem happy so far. I'll walk on the treadmill tonight and see how they feel.

Went to the pool with [livejournal.com profile] mustelidmania today. I did my hydrotherapy and swam 125 yards, in addition to just playing around. I think we were in the water for close to an hour, though maybe less. I stayed in until my left arch stopped feeling as though I'd added an icepick mod. That's what comes of walking for half an hour on a treadmill while wearing hiking shoes (a few days ago).

I often wear my contacts when going to the pool. I need to remember to take them out soon--I don't want another amoebic eye infection. Anyhow, my eyes are so dry these days. I stopped wearing contacts on a daily basis a year or two ago. It sort of happened gradually. My eyes are just extremely dry. The optometrist blames it on aging. I can't use any lubricating drops and almost all eye drops contain preservatives I'm allergic to. Sterile saline ampules last all of a couple minutes, then my burning and stinging starts. I'm not allergic to the polymer, I'm just dry.

Anyhow, that's not what this is about. I just miss having peripheral vision. WoohoO! I can see!

In other news, the next appliance I want is a food dehydrator. I picked up an awesome camp cookbook at a visitor center on the parkway last week. The recipes are really promising--I know I'd like many of them fresh, so I'm eager to see how they handle dehydration and rehydration.

I just started swimming - so it's bad to wear your contacts in the water?

I used to wear my contacts 24/7 back when that was okay to do so. I'd take them out and put new ones in every two weeks. (This was a long time ago.)

Well, I got a nasty eye infection. It turns out that amoebas thrive in pools without algae. Since many swimming pools have algicide, well . . . the little critters got under my contacts and moved inward. It was caught *very* early, thank goodness. It's not really an issue now since I never wear my lenses for more than a few hours. After swimming, I usually need to change the saline once and let them soak again. They're porous and soak up the pool water a bit.

Scary! Sounds like it's safer to take them out afterwards, then. Thanks for the info.

It's safer to take them out when not swimming. If you need them to see in the pool then use goggles to minimize contact with the water.

I need them to see so that I don't stumble over children or lose my way. I do wear goggle, too.

I never stumble over the same child more than once. They seem to be smart enough to stay out of my way after that. :)

What brand contacts did/do you wear?

AccuView has some new ones that are more gas-permeable, and I've noticed that they definitely dry my eyes out less (I'm wearing them for two weeks and chucking them). I have the same problem, but I can of course use rewetting drops. I don't need them as much with these new ones, though. Might be worth trying--you might not be able to do daily wear, but might make occasional wear easier.

I'm on Acuvue II now. I'm allergic to the polymer in the newer lenses AcuVue came out with (hydromax? hydrience? it sounds like shampoo).

You stare at computer screens a lot, too, which means you probably blink less for long stretche of time.

That's an awful lot of work to go through to make firewood.

Dry eyes are a not uncommon symptom that goes w/ fibro. It's been a big issue for me too.

What brand of shoes? I need a decent pair.

[identity profile] krasota.livejournal.com 2006-08-10 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
New Balance. I wish they made comfortable, orthopoedically shoes which actually looked attractive.

Aha! I thought you posted about those a few days ago! Thanks. :)

Put a pinch of a high quality, non-overprocessed salt (such as a good kosher or sea salt) in each bottle/glass of your drinking water. It helps some with asthma, dry eyes, dry mouth, excessive urination, and sinus problems.
