some pictures from late december and early january

So, my parents visited in December. As usual, I got lots of pictures of their dogs and very few pictures of my parents.

As usual, I attempted to covertly take pictures of Bailey, with the futile hope that he wouldn't notice and get distraught. Mom managed to distract him with scritches, but then he figured me out and got all moody. Sadly, that's the only pic I got of my mom. I'll have to bribe her to come visit me again.

I'm glad my dad's not a cat. If he were, I would fear this look

Neal, of course, was as sweet as usual.
Is that food?
That thing in your hand--is it food?
I'm a dog. That means "feed me".

Our new house has the weirdest registers I've seen. See? They're kind of neat. The center piece is a screw--one can tighten (close) the register or loosen (open) it. I took the cover off to see if I could figure out how to remove the whole thing--I wanted to strip the ones that are painted and then spray paint them a neutral metallic color similar to the original finish (one room has unpainted vents). No go. There are no screws, no staples, no nails. These damn things are RIVETED to the ductwork. The hardwood floor was snapped in down under and around the vents. *frustration* Until we decide what to do, the trimwork won't be painted and boy will continue to eat paint.

Our old house is quite cold this time of year--the floor isn't insulated. Only one room has carpet over there, too, which is good because carpets collect dust and harbor mites. I actually had to wear heavy socks over there. Yes, these are wool--made by Russian women (or perhaps their wee children). I bought them somewhere outside of the Peter and Paul fortress in St. Petersburg. I'm wearing cotton kneesocks and ankle-length leggings *beneath* the wool. No rash that way.

I'm too achy, busy, and tired to edit tons of photos. I took a lot at the Norfolk show, but I'm just going to post two and they're not really event-related.

my pretty boy
the two of us I think he's thinking of eating my hair.

boy will continue to eat paint

Now that explains a lot.

Lots of good doggie love, but that last of you and boy is marvellous!

There was a girl in my Stitch n' Bitch group a few weeks ago raving about socks just like that, and how she needed to go back to Russia to buy some socks on the street. I had no clue!

Yep. They claimed to come in from the countryside once a week to sell socks and that it provided more money for food than the real work (whatever the male head of the household was doing). They weren't dressed like city women, so I'm inclined to believe them.

I have another pair that's not stripey. They're shorter. Also very warm, but the woman who made them was elderly and lived in my neighborhood. Also quite warm. I just wish I could *knit* with wool.

Well, right now, I just wish I could knit, period. Stupid hands.

You're right. Those are the weirdest registers you've ever seen. :)

"I think he's thinking of eating my hair."

From the looks of it, you narrowly escaped :) Ravenous hair appetite on that one?

Obviously, he was going for her brains. The hair just had to be dealt with first.

I thought everybody went for her brains ;)

If he gets clogged up, you'll have to rinse him out with drain-o or paint thinner. Hopefully, he won't get clogged up. :D
