Perilous quest . . .

Last year we found a recipe in one of my FiL's magazines. It was lovely--pumpkin cheesecake bars. They might have not been called that, but that's what they tasted like. He subscribes to Gourmet and one other magazine (Bon Appetit, maybe? He picks some other magazines up from time to time) and this would've been in an issue between September and December 2003.

They didn't have frosting. They had a crumbly crust on the bottom (like pat-in-the-pan butter and nut crust, I think). They were free of soy and vegetarian (no jello or marshmallows, in other words). I made them in an 8x8 or 9x9 square pan, though it's entirely possible I halved a recipe. I want to try to make them gluten-free, but I can't find the recipe.

So, if there's anyone out there who happens to get a bunch of cooking magazines who remembers such a recipe, I'd be indebted to you for, um, ever. ;) If our local library indexed magazine articles, I'd check there before even asking. I'll probably *still* go to the library and page through old magazines. I can't search UVA's catalog off-grounds without a student/faculty ID (walk-in use is allowed, if they don't kick me out).

I'm planning on going to the library, anyhow, I just thought I'd throw this out there. My in-laws don't always keep old magazines as they are not pack-rats. I am a packrat. And I need magazines to keep me warm at night.

Do they burn well? ;-)

I just want to say that if you find the recipe, please post it! That sounds yummy!

Oh, I'll definitely post it. I'll memory mark it. ;)

In fact . . . I should probably check my memories before I go to the library. There's a slim chance it's in there.

Hm. Try epicurious.com, because that's a recipe storehouse for those magazines.

Have you tried epicurious.com? Their advanced search is great and I believe both those mags are indexed there.

there are plenty of recipes that sound similar - it seems that the crust is the big issue.

I looked through all the recipes at epicurious that have pumpkin...I didn't find any that sounded exactly like your recipe...but I added MANY yummy pumpkin recipes to my recipe box. That is my favorite site...I go there more than any other place except for yahoo mail.
