tent comes down, we get itchy

We took down the tent. It stayed up for a week, airing out. I was hoping we'd get a good rainstorm followed by a sunny day, but no luck.

So, the tent was covered with earwigs in all the little pole-slips and such. Ick. They're harmless, but creepy and tenacious.

there's was also a HUGE spider on the tent under the rainflap. Now, I've learned to co-exist with the little house spiders, but I was only three feet away when I saw this one and it wasn't little... it wasn't a wolf spider, but was larger than any wolf spider I've seen. it was big, brown, and had a bite-sized abdomen and long legs. I screamed, ran, and took a good five minutes to stop shaking. I still have that lovely irrational fear of spiders--I've learned to cope with smller ones. That one, though... it was big and it KNEW IT. tom had to keep bumping it's ass to get it to move further away from the tent after he knocked it off. it wanted to eat my heart, i know it.

the tent was covered in pollen. boy wiped down the rainfly as best he could, but when we shook it and the tent out, we were enveloped in a cloud of pollen. amazing how much pollen... it was under our maple tree, which is done rutting, but i'm guessing the wind in the area blew oak, pine, and mulberry over. i'm itchy now. boy's rinsing off in the shower.

the downy woodpecker came down to steal from the suet feeder while we were standing right there. then she saw us and flew up into the tree to pretend she didn't startle herself. she's so pretty. her mate comes, too. and have i mentioned how much i like seeing the finches feeding each other? we have a male-female pair who do that as part of their courtship. it's adorable.

i'm really tired. i thought brian was going to tell me where folks were meeting for lunch, but i guess not. i think we'll go to the mountains today... no big hikes, just a couple legstretchers to overlooks... resting hikes, in other words. sitting and being and watching the clouds.

Ack. I was busy cleaning/folding clothes and never sw your message because kristy showed up. I'm sorry. We went to Guadalajara's.

I have had some finches feeding each other too. The grackles have been visitng more frequently lately though and I saw the first starling this morning. Hopefully it is the last starling.

Spiders, ick.

I hate bugs in general. It's just icky. There was this ad for fear factor with people eating these gigantic box-like spiders that still makes me want to vomit to this day, and I only saw it for half a second.

Just yuck.

Aaaaaaaaaah spiders. I hate spiders. Icky.

And as much as I love nature, I have no qualms in squishing spiders.
