pictures from 4 oct 03

Yesterday, we went to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We "hiked" the Catoctin Loop Trail (very short trail which goes through a wooded area to an overlook above the Shenandoah Valley) and visited 20 Minute Cliffs.

Anyhow, we were dressed highly inappropriately for hiking, but perfectly for light walking and laughter.

Boy felt like practicing his bat imitation while I preferred to survery my domain.

I'm quite taken with my new hat. I needed a new winter hat. Now I've found one, even if it disturbs my beloved.

Anyone who's ever hiked with us knows how much food boy carries on the trail. Only a few have seen to what lengths he'll go to find edibles. Lacking arms, I'm about as useful as Elphaba's sister. One of these days, he's going to snack on hemlock or nightshade.

At 20 Minute Cliffs:
Of course I'll climb the funny tree, I love trees. I took this picture of boy just to get another picture of the tree. Of course, if I hadn't been there to stop him, he'd have sauntered right over the edge of this cliff.

Before leaving, he had to check on a bug.

I <heart> the BRP, at least the part between Roanoke and Waynesboro. And Skyline Drive, too. I'll have to drive down that way when I go to North Carolina in November....

yep. we most often visit the part between vesuvius and waynesboro, though yesterday we even ventured south of buena vista. we were still considerably north of Roanoke, but we've been down that way once before.

if there's *any* ice or snow, they close the parkway, just FYI.

You two are so funny. I want to come to Virginia, just to go on a hike with you. Someday, someday.

Um, it's cool enough for hats and jackets??!?! *whines* I wanna wear hats and jackets! It's NEVER cool enough for hats and jackets *throws self on nearest sofa*

Cool pictures though. If not for pictures I don't think I'd ever get to see mountains and cliffs! *pouts*

it all looks gorgeous but the thing that struck me is how pretty your eyes are in the closeup picture of you in your hat!
