augh. forgot to buy dry milk when i was out. got loads of other stuff not on my list, though.

so, anyone local awake and up for visiting Kroger or the Teeter with me? I don't feel like driving out by myself, but I want to finish laundry and I can't do that until I get dry milk to destenchify the pants in the washer (i've washed them twice, with various things to destench added, but nothing is working. I NEED dry milk.).

What does the dry milk do? Will it get out smells like cigarette smoke, or "wet dog"? Do you just put it in the washing machine? You've got me curious and thinking about my draperies.

I've never had a problem eradicating cigarette smoke or wet dog. If normal laundering doesn't work (that includes soap and vinegar), borax, washing soda, salt, or baking soda *does*. For non-washable club-wear, making a 10% vodka solution (90% water) and spritzing it on removes club smells (smoke, sweat, etc).

Dry milk works really well on fragrances, which tend to be tenacious. I just pour a half cup or so in, add warm or cold water (if the object can stand hot, I use hot), let the machine agitate a bit to dissolve the milk, then let the item soak. Sometimes i go ahead and add the soap for soaking... and i put the vinegar in the fabric softener cup. If the object's stench is really tenacious (febreze is like that), I soak it in multiple milk soaks, with extra milk and less water until the smell comes out, then I wash it normally.

hmmmm.... that's good to know. My mom often sends stuff to my kids that has (inevitably) been peed on by cats. I usually just throw it out without even showing it to them because I know the smell won't come out. I hate that. Aside from that, she buys things at garage sales and goodwill and they always have "that" smell - whatever that smell is.

I would have gone if I was not in the wrong whole section of the country ;)

I worked with someone on the ambulance this spring who had never seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off. He was like 18 or 20. How is this possible? I was astonished.

I haven't!

They used it play it ALL THE TIME on Comedy Central = M decides it must be stupid = No Watchies.

I suppose I'll have to watch it, now that everyone is mentioning it...
