(no subject)

boy's hair styling gel (and the one I used from time to time) has been discontinued. no more Kiss Kids Hold Up styling gel.

*sob*

this took me AGES to find. it wasn't scented with anything more than grapefruit extract. and it didn't contain aloe, soy (vitamin e), lanolin, nettles, chamomile, or a zillion other things i'm allergic to.

*scream*

dammit.

now i have to hunt for one again. and no, making it from gelatin is NOT an option. making it from agar might be, but that entails finding a permanent spot in the fridge for it, not something i feel like doing.

I'm lucky enough not to be allergic to anything, but I do sympathize -- there've been countless times when something I've really liked has been discontinued...or worse, "improved" so that it's no longer anything like the thing I used to like. I don't know why companies can't leave well enough alone. :-/

are you allergic to slippery elm?

No, but I think that something with that much salicylic acid would wreak havoc with my skin.

I bought some flax seeds. They'll still need refrigeration, but we'll see how it goes.

Eggwhites, or does that pose the same issue as gelatine? Works for mohawks...

gel, not glue. ;)

egg whites would be WAY too stiff. he just doesn't want frizzy hair. he's vain like that. he thinks he has an afro.

If he's just trying to avoid frizzies, what about a small amount of olive oil on his palms (just enough to make them shiny) and then rubbing his hands through his hair? Can you coexist with olive oil? I almost made you eat some once before I tried to poison you with soy, so I hope so.

His skin is already super oily. By the end of the day, his hair is looking oily. He's really just looking for something that will tame the frizz but not look oily. If he didn't have reserves of oil rivalling Alaska's, I'd suggest olive oil to him. I have a feeling that if I did suggest it, he'd rub his face all over my silk shirts.
