Some stuff I've let percolate for a few hours/days...

The assassination of Zoran Djindjic saddens me. The Balkans are a tense region and have been so off and on for decades, if not centuries. It saddens me to see the cycle perpetuate.

Freedom fries. This just showcases ignorance. French fries are french fries, not French fries. "French" refers to the cut (frenching is slicing something into thin strips, thicker than julienning) of the potato, not the country of origin.

My family never referred to sauerkraut as Liberty cabbage--probably because they're German (some arrived here with the Amish influx in colonial times, some in the 1870s--all spoke German until the 1900s and some (Amish relatives, distant) still do). Of course, my ancestors didn't change their German surnames, either.

I'm sick and tired of being in pain. There should be a limit to how much muscular pain and nerve pain one person is allowed to experience. I'm certainly taking more than my share. It's time for the pain to go away now.

I'm still waiting to see the outcome of the Georgian-Abkhazian mediations. It would be interesting to see Abkhazia completely independent, but I'm not sure how likely that is. I can remember the day Abkhazia seceded from Georgia--I was working in the Georgia Embassy when Shevardnadze called to speak to the consul. Damn situation needs to settle down so Abkhaz and Georgian wines can take over the world.

I'm really stressed over what to do with the feral kitty that has adopted us. I want her to have a safe home somewhere. I'll call some shelters soon, I guess.

You stand a better chance of getting her into a no-kill shelter right now if she's expecting kittens - shelters that are full will sometimes try to make room for a mama cat or dog - especially since they know that it will be easy to find homes for puppies or kittens. Georgia landed a safe spot at the no-kill shelter because she was a mother of 9 - all 9 found homes quickly, and we took Mama Dog.

Is this TRUE? They're actually changing the name of FRIES?

I thought my friend was lying...

Anyway, she wants to sell people on the concept of "freedom kissing" -- do it for your country.

It wasn't unknown for people to change German surnames. The British royal family did so, from Battenberg to Mountbatten.

Hi, Marnanel!

Yes, that was my point. Others changed their names. My family didn't. We remained Schrocks, Rinks, and Rockenbaughs. ;) Some Schmidts in my area changed to Smith. My best friend (when I was five) had grandparents named Schmidt. They had Smith cousins who had changed their names.

And we ate sauerkraut. ;)

Freedom fries?! Bull!

Gahhhh!!! That's been *really* annoying me. (Heh, then again, I'm biased in *favor* of the French.) You're right. It *does* showcase ignorance. Americans are attacking something so petty and arbitrary that it's making us look like a nation of whiny-ass fools.

And don't forget the "freedom toast."

I might have to write a rant about this.

Good point about the cut of the fries. I hadn't thought of that. I might post that paragraph to the IG list, if you don't mind.

I am with you on the pain thing. We really need to stop being psychically linked. I couldn't figure out why I've been hurting so much more the past few days, then I see this. It all makes sense. I've also started my period yet again, even though it just ended last week, because my body seems to want to be in sync with yours. Next thing you know, my boobs are going to grow.

Hopefully you'll be all moved soon and will be able to get some rest. Rest is good.

yay, more cleavage!

i don't mind at all.

your body obviously has an affinity for mine.

I'm not sure how I expected you to respond to my comments, but "Yay, more cleavage!" certainly wasn't it.

As long as I don't start getting shorter...
