elle is being inundated with letters and email this week...

why?

well, they published a rather nasty story<M/a> about "all in your head" illnesses, a rather prickly subject for me. Nicholas Regush made this his scream of the week. i like his diagnosis of IWP.

now, we all know that elle isn't exactly a purveyor of prime research. which is exactly WHY i don't feel elle should publish this kind of tripe... the whole dismissive tone toward illnesses which are still misunderstood really peeves me.

the fact that it's difficult to find a physical "cause" of for my fibro/cfids symptoms doesn't mean the problem is all in my head. it means we need to do more RESEARCH into these disorders and their pathologies.

i know co-cure is mounting a writing campaign. if anyone wants addresses, let me know.

graaagh ... you know, i'd love for just ONE MINUTE to go see some of the doctors who fed her "shared doctor-patient fantasy." when my breathing was crippling my social life i got "it's just stress" or "it's just anxiety" so many times i was about ready to scream.

Anxiety-inducing situations leading to swollen, itchy lips? I'm surprised that the article didn't even mention the possibility that the author had herpes.

Hope last night's rain got to you. We got just under 1.5". Aaaah.

*grrrr*

Because, of course, there must be some deep-seated psychological reason that I _want_ to feel this shitty. Fuckers.
