poop.
So, I went into Hot Topic today to try these on. They looked fabulous, actually. Fit perfectly. I didn't buy them because they might look too good.
I'm really top heavy. I tend to look unbalanced when I have super tight things on bottom. That said, I could probably swing these with longer tees and really baggy sweaters--wear them the way I wear leggings.
And there was the fact that I'm tired as hell, my hair is in need of henna, my bun was falling out, my scuffed up sensible shoes . . . . I just looked too damn old to be trying them on. I have long legs . . . my legs do not match the top half of my body. When my legs look fantastic, I feel frumpy and dowdy and poorly put together.
The store lobby was full of fresh faced teens who were at least half my age. They were flirting with the store clerks, young men who were also about half my age. And one of the clerks asked if they fit. I said, "yes and no. I think I'm too old to wear them."
Young man, the proper answer to that comment is, "What?! You take those jeans and ROCK them." Do not make commiserating mewlings and tell me it'll all be okay.
As for the jeans . . . I know my size and that they actually do fit, so I'll keep an eye online and watch for sales.

Much as I love stuff at Hot Topic, I am starting to feel slightly silly shopping there. It's even worse when I'm buying stuff for me and the boys.
Love those pants, though. I think they're perfect for you.

Oh, and yes. Hot Topic Minion = made of fail, in this case.

these, especially (http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302028504&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442172591&bmUID=1204943849855).
Oh, and I know it's been obvious for awhile, but the eighties are definitely back. I saw WHITE stretch denim jeans at Sam's. o_O

You can keep the white stretch jeans, although I will covet the skully ones! ;)
(This, btw, isn't a body-hating post -- I'm with you on being realistic about What Works For Me And What Doesn't, although I do think you could carry off the skinny pants better than I can!)

I'm just wishing they'd those skull jeans in children's size - my daughter would eat them up.

they would, however, be fabulous on you so i hope you find them on sale and stock up!

Krasota, I feel similarly when I go to Hot Topic. It doesn't interest me anymore because it feels like a Claire's overrun with 13-year-olds, and I guess my style has changed to something a little with more old-school class. I can't imagine Brigitte Bardot or Audrey Hepburn in bondage pants and sparkly Care Bear t-shirts.

It's still the only mall-type store where I can buy black denim (in a non mom cut) on a regular basis. And it's the only mall store that regularly carries skinny black denim for men.

I get tired of stores having 'black denim' that is really dark blue or gray. I have been forced into dark blue denim because Lane Bryant has no sense of style, but unfortunately makes the best fit of fat-girl jeans.

I prefer Levi's, just below the waist (but not low waist), stretch, with a bootcut or flare, though I will wear skinny/pegged.
Very few stores in my area carry black Levi's. And the Sears up here didn't have them in anything but mom jeans. I don't wear mom jeans.

But finding them is impossible.

As I age, though, my boobs are increasing in size in a most disproportionate manner. It's pissing me off.
Fucking biology.

And then, of course, you'd have to get some new shoes.
Good god, I miss shopping.

I really need new boots. My 20i docs were right at the edge of what fit me. And while my feet didn't go up a whole size or half size with pregnancy, they spread *just* enough for my boots to not fit at all. I gave them to a friend who will love and cherish them. My trail shoes no longer fit, either, at least not with my newly reconstructed orthoses. My other shoes are fine--I was just closer to my size limit in those.

I have been wearing the same pair of shoes for the last 7 months because they were my 'loosest' fit- I'm hoping that my feet get longer rather than spread out, because before pregnancy I was in a 6.5 Ewide shoe- I have a very wide bone structure in my foot. I'm nervous! (but also anxious to get new shoes!)

i will whip the HT boy for you... tell me what store you were at. ;P
also: for how long we've had those pants, i would suspect they'll hit clearance in another month or two. i may have the opportunity to get them on a good sale for you at some point soon, if you'd want.

Black jeans are one of the few things I gave up on long ago. I have black dress slacks and black cords....but denim...bah. I live in blue jeans.
Oh so I got one of the Goddess cup maternity bra's...I dont think you can wear them though...but they fit an I cup decently, yeah for discrepancies on bra sizing! :)

old lady! You saying you're too old to wear those is like me saying I'm too old for something. You look to be in your late twenties, miss, and should totally rock those jeans.
I don't wear skinny jeans like those myself because I look terrible in them! I have fat thighs from running for years and need flared bottoms to accommodate for them so I don't look too top-heavy.
