poop.

So, I went into Hot Topic today to try these on. They looked fabulous, actually. Fit perfectly. I didn't buy them because they might look too good.

I'm really top heavy. I tend to look unbalanced when I have super tight things on bottom. That said, I could probably swing these with longer tees and really baggy sweaters--wear them the way I wear leggings.

And there was the fact that I'm tired as hell, my hair is in need of henna, my bun was falling out, my scuffed up sensible shoes . . . . I just looked too damn old to be trying them on. I have long legs . . . my legs do not match the top half of my body. When my legs look fantastic, I feel frumpy and dowdy and poorly put together.

The store lobby was full of fresh faced teens who were at least half my age. They were flirting with the store clerks, young men who were also about half my age. And one of the clerks asked if they fit. I said, "yes and no. I think I'm too old to wear them."

Young man, the proper answer to that comment is, "What?! You take those jeans and ROCK them." Do not make commiserating mewlings and tell me it'll all be okay.

As for the jeans . . . I know my size and that they actually do fit, so I'll keep an eye online and watch for sales.

Bad Hot Topic minion! Want my hockey stick?

Much as I love stuff at Hot Topic, I am starting to feel slightly silly shopping there. It's even worse when I'm buying stuff for me and the boys.

Love those pants, though. I think they're perfect for you.

I get my fishnets for performances at Hot Topic (cheapest around) and I mistakenly tried to push S. in his stroller into one of their stores last year so I could purchase some hoisery. Yeah, their aisles are not made to accommodate strollers (or wheelchairs, for that matter). Talk about feeling old! I backed out of the store as gracefully as I could and went on my way.

oh, he actually commiserated? foolish, foolish child. so much he has yet to learn about women.

I would wear those like leggings -- they're both cute and comfortable-looking.

Oh, and yes. Hot Topic Minion = made of fail, in this case.

I'm liking a lot of the skinny jeans on the website right now.

these, especially (http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302028504&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442172591&bmUID=1204943849855).

Oh, and I know it's been obvious for awhile, but the eighties are definitely back. I saw WHITE stretch denim jeans at Sam's. o_O

OMG, I *love* those. Would that they were available in boot-cut! (Skinny jeans are all well and good in general, but I never wind up wearing them -- my calves are too big to tuck into boots with the extra bulk of jeans, and I look like I've been sharpened like a pencil if I wear them without boots, since I'm not-small on top but have tiny lower calves and ankles!)

You can keep the white stretch jeans, although I will covet the skully ones! ;)

(This, btw, isn't a body-hating post -- I'm with you on being realistic about What Works For Me And What Doesn't, although I do think you could carry off the skinny pants better than I can!)

skinny jeans look terrible on me, as well.

I'm just wishing they'd those skull jeans in children's size - my daughter would eat them up.

how boring and staid am i--my first thought was that i wouldn't get them because they look poorly made ;-) .

they would, however, be fabulous on you so i hope you find them on sale and stock up!

[identity profile] crankles.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! I knew I was getting older when I went through the juniors section at Dillards and went, "I'm not buying this torn-up, paper-thin crap with strings hanging off it ..."

Krasota, I feel similarly when I go to Hot Topic. It doesn't interest me anymore because it feels like a Claire's overrun with 13-year-olds, and I guess my style has changed to something a little with more old-school class. I can't imagine Brigitte Bardot or Audrey Hepburn in bondage pants and sparkly Care Bear t-shirts.

[identity profile] krasota.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
I can totally see either one in bondage pants, though not the cheap-ass tshirts.

It's still the only mall-type store where I can buy black denim (in a non mom cut) on a regular basis. And it's the only mall store that regularly carries skinny black denim for men.

[identity profile] melody-rossiter.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Audrey Hepburn, black herringbone twill bondage pants with platinum buckles and a slim black cashmere turtleneck.

I get tired of stores having 'black denim' that is really dark blue or gray. I have been forced into dark blue denim because Lane Bryant has no sense of style, but unfortunately makes the best fit of fat-girl jeans.

[identity profile] geeki.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually since skinny black is in, I found them at several "generic" stores. We had sears, jcpenny and mervyn's gift cards from the family and I bought clothing at all three for the kids this year.

[identity profile] krasota.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I've looked and our (admittedly pathetic) Sears and JCP have neither. Never heard of Mervyn's.

I prefer Levi's, just below the waist (but not low waist), stretch, with a bootcut or flare, though I will wear skinny/pegged.

Very few stores in my area carry black Levi's. And the Sears up here didn't have them in anything but mom jeans. I don't wear mom jeans.

[identity profile] geeki.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I like straight leg levi's 501's with button fly :)

But finding them is impossible.

[identity profile] klwalton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I've never been able to wear skinny jeans. I have to buy "relaxed" fit in order to find something that fits my waist *and* my thighs. Hourglass, that's me.

As I age, though, my boobs are increasing in size in a most disproportionate manner. It's pissing me off.

Fucking biology.

:)

[identity profile] melody-rossiter.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Those pants are extra pimp, and I totally loathe skinny pants. If you had a good tight bra to stap the girls down, with like a tight black, low slung tank top, it would be effortless cute.

And then, of course, you'd have to get some new shoes.

Good god, I miss shopping.

[identity profile] krasota.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Even with a good bra (that's another rant), it's next to impossible to find well-fitting tops when one has a minimum of an H-cup up top (in most brands it's I or J). And tight bras aren't a good fit for breastfeeding. No underwires, nothing that binds.

I really need new boots. My 20i docs were right at the edge of what fit me. And while my feet didn't go up a whole size or half size with pregnancy, they spread *just* enough for my boots to not fit at all. I gave them to a friend who will love and cherish them. My trail shoes no longer fit, either, at least not with my newly reconstructed orthoses. My other shoes are fine--I was just closer to my size limit in those.

[identity profile] melody-rossiter.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, a tight bra would only be good when you're going out for an evening after pumping for the sitters.

I have been wearing the same pair of shoes for the last 7 months because they were my 'loosest' fit- I'm hoping that my feet get longer rather than spread out, because before pregnancy I was in a 6.5 Ewide shoe- I have a very wide bone structure in my foot. I'm nervous! (but also anxious to get new shoes!)

[identity profile] krasota.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll soon discover that tight bras are never an option while nursing. You can't put pressure on the ductal tissue or reservoirs like that. It's a recipe for pain--plugged ducts and worse. Breasts are never empty--they're constantly converting milk from blood.

[identity profile] melody-rossiter.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Eeek. :( That doesn't sound like fun, at all.

[identity profile] burnbright.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
i could not wear skinny jeans if my life depended on it. while i am pretty well proportioned over all, skinny jeans make me look like a freak.

i will whip the HT boy for you... tell me what store you were at. ;P

also: for how long we've had those pants, i would suspect they'll hit clearance in another month or two. i may have the opportunity to get them on a good sale for you at some point soon, if you'd want.

[identity profile] krasota.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, I'll totally keep that in mind. Let me know if you see a good price on size 11? Please? With icing and yummies on top?

[identity profile] burnbright.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
but of course! there's a store here that's gonna have special shenanigans going on, so i will see what i can do when that happens. obviously no promises, but i'll try!

[identity profile] paisli.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh lordie.. don't i know it. I despise going to Hot Topic anymore.. I'm way too old to be there.. but we have a show next week, and I really want some arm warmers to wear, so I just bought them online instead.. I may be old, but I'm still a rock star damnit! Those little brats just dont' know it ;)

[identity profile] dahliablue.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
I usually try and avoid Hot Topic altogether because of how ancient I feel when I walk in. My unnatural red hair was complimented last time and I briefly felt cool, then wondered if I was too old for such hair color shenanigans if teens were complimenting me...

[identity profile] geeki.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
screw that. never too old (or young so I tell my ten year old...)for hair shenanigans.

[identity profile] mac-arthur-park.livejournal.com 2008-03-09 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Amen. I am going a shade of burgundy not found in nature tomorrow, myself.

[identity profile] redzshadow.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I like them both and I think you can totally like get by with wearing them, for sure! Screw the young dude... Some things from the 80's are great ;)

[identity profile] geeki.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet you would totally kick ass in those jeans (we need you to go back try them on and post pictures please) :)

Black jeans are one of the few things I gave up on long ago. I have black dress slacks and black cords....but denim...bah. I live in blue jeans.

Oh so I got one of the Goddess cup maternity bra's...I dont think you can wear them though...but they fit an I cup decently, yeah for discrepancies on bra sizing! :)

[identity profile] seeliespright.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
What?! You take those jeans and ROCK them old lady!

You saying you're too old to wear those is like me saying I'm too old for something. You look to be in your late twenties, miss, and should totally rock those jeans.

I don't wear skinny jeans like those myself because I look terrible in them! I have fat thighs from running for years and need flared bottoms to accommodate for them so I don't look too top-heavy.

[identity profile] hnybny.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
These totally scream 80's to me and that's not a bad thing. I loved my parachute pants like the dickens.
