Ready to be done.

Well, we were going to take 3-4 days and camp back across the country, but I got a bug in my butt and decided to drive, drive, drive.

I didn't get out of Kansas, mostly because I had no way to look up pet-friendly hotels, so I opted for a Motel 6 just west of Kansas City. I think I could've driven to St. Louis tonight, but boy would've gotten grouchy. We took red roads until Manhattan, KS, or I think I'd have made it well past StL. ;)

I might make tomorrow a 16-hour homestretch run and just drive all the way home. I want my bed. I don't want to unpack and repack the tent anymore. I love camping, but I hate the setting up and breaking down parts at this point.

The weather was beautiful for driving today. I hope tomorrow is decent, though I know we'll hit a band of rain around the mountains.

So . . . tomorrow might just be a thousand-miler. We'll see.

My grandparents were just like that. No matter how far away they were, once pointed home-ward, they'd want to just get home.

Once they called us from Alaska saying "we're heading East, see you next week." 4 days later, they're back home in NY.

(They even had it worked out so they could switch drivers without stopping. "Set the cruise and as long as someone keeps a hand on the wheel, you're fine." Insane :) )
